berg
danielson, owner and guide
Berg
is native to Bainbridge Island, a small island across from Seattle in
Washington's Puget Sound. He grew up on and around boats, learning to
sail at an early age. After surviving high school where he amused himself
playing water polo and swimming, he moved on to Hampshire College in Amherst
where he took a degree in Literary Non-Fiction Writing. Perhaps to acquire
life experiences as a foundation for the content of his writing or driven
by his enduring love for the coastal terrain of British Columbia, he interrupted
his college work to build a 19’ dory and then rowed it from Seattle
to Alaska during the summer of 1997.
Berg has lived in Sweden,
biked from Los Angeles to Albuquerque at age 9, climbed extensively in
the North Cascades, crewed on a 40’ sailboat from Florida through
the Panama Canal to Costa Rica, and climbed Mexico’s 18,500 foot
Pico de Orizaba.
His career in experiential
education started as a wilderness instructor for VisionQuest, an adjudicated
youth wilderness therapy program in southeastern Arizona where he worked
for two years. At the beginning of 2001, he joined the National Outdoor
Leadership School where he has been leading 25 day coastal sailing expeditions
in Baja, Mexico, keelboat sailing trips in Desolation Sound and backpacking
trips in Wyoming. He is wilderness first responder certified.
