getting
to heather island. . . .
a hobbit's tale.
All
trips start and finish in Seattle. We can pick you up at the downtown
ferry terminal. We will then drive North to Vancouver city and board a
ferry for Vancouver Island. Once on Vancouver Island we drive North to
Campbell River, where we take another ferry to Quadra Island, drive across
it, and take a final ferry to Cortes Island. From Cortes we will take
a small boat out to Heather Island.
If you are coming on your own, there are many methods. Below are four
methods listed from most convenient/most expensive to least convenient/least
expensive:
by
floatplane
The
easiest and most spectacular way to get here is to fly by seaplane to
Manson's Landing on Cortes Island. Flights leave from Seattle and Vancouver
daily in the summer, and cost about $200 from Seattle and $100 from Vancouver
for one-way flights.
by
airplane
A less expensive option is to fly to Campbell River, on Vancouver Island,
where we can pick you up by boat and transport you to Heather Island.
Helijet has daily scheduled service from Seattle to Campbell river for
$90-$160 one way. Or book your flight with any online service, Campbell
River's airport code is "YBL."
by
car
The scenic way - and relatively inexpensive. From Seattle the route takes
you across only 280 highway miles - but takes 8 hours because of the three
ferry crossings.
by
bus
S ame route as the car, but less expensive because of the walk-on rate
for the ferry. There are several ways to go. From Vancouver, take either
the Tsawwassen or the Horseshoe Bay ferry to Nanaimo, and then take a
two-hour bus up to Campbell River. Then walk 5 blocks to a ferry that
takes you across to Quadra Island (a 15 minute crossing) where we will
pick you up.
