sail exploration

The focus of this course is to explore some of the little know areas of Desolation Sound. Depending on weather conditions, we will have the choice of traveling to the Curme island group, the Octopus islands or deep into Toba fjord.

We will be passing on basic wilderness expeditioning skills including camping, sailing and coastal navigation techniques. You will come away from this trip with a strong understanding of tides, currents and local weather systems.

Another focus of this trip is to seek out local wildlife including whales, sea lions, otters, bald eagles and wolves. We will also be keeping our eye out for abundant wild foods of this area: oysters, clams, chantrelle mushrooms, salmon berries and huckleberries.

The first and last night will be spent at our solar and wind powered cabin situated on a small family island, where we can enjoy the area and get to know each other under a roof. Cost is $725 which includes round trip van transportation from Seattle, all meals (made from high-quality, mostly local and organic ingredients), and group gear. Personal gear is available for rent or purchase.
